The Desk: A Note, A Bill, A Blog, A Vision of Loveliness
I always try to incorporate a desk in a special place in every home I design.  Call me old-fashioned, someone who still romances the days of note writing, someone who believes we should teach our children to calm their mind and actually write something long-hand, someone who likes the order a desk provides a home.  I've picked some special ones here that I love and would be happy to have in my own home or a client's design.
Take a look at these winners.  Let me know which is your favorite. The Gwyneth Paltrow:  Intelligent, sultry and serene all in one.  Eric Appel Antiques in New York offers this Italian 1960's Aldo Tura lacquered parchment free standing desk with brass detail.  I love it!The Tom Hanks:  Traditional, handsome and a piece that has staying power.  Royal Antiques in New Orleans offers this 19th century English flame mahogany , pedestal desk with leather top, late Georgian.  A special piece perfect for anyone!
The Edward Burns:  Confident and strong:  an extrovert with a special appeal.  Amy Perlin (a favorite New York haunt) offers this Large Scale International Modern Style Desk.  France, 1970's, leather, rosewood and aluminum.  A beauty! The Justin Timberlake:  Charismatic, clean, fun and witty.  Emmerson Troop in Los Angeles offers this 1960's Denmark Kai Kristiansen oak desk with deep mahogany, open grain finish with brushed aluminum handles and feet. Ooh La La!
The Brooke Shields:  Chic, glamourous, in a league of its own.  John Saladino's Saladino Desk is available in many finishes.  I've used it in numerous projects because it's a winner!
The Jake Gyllenhaal:  Strong, cool, calculating and calm.  1st Dibs Paris offers this 1940's desk by Maison Jansen in metal, brass and rosewood.  If you can own a Maison Jansen piece EVER you should!  A design masterpiece.
The Ben Affleck:  Classic, acquired and independently cool.  Gray Morell in Los Angeles offers this English mid 20th Century chinoiserie, lacquered and faux bamboo 9-drawer desk with brass pulls.  Who wouldn't LOVE it for their own?

The Natalie Portman:  Attractive, smart and beautiful.  J. Robert Scott's Mondrian Desk with a grid pattern parchment in smoke.  It's smokin' hot!
Pick one for yourself and be happy, happy to add a new piece to your collection of spectacular furniture.  Whether it's an antique, vintage or brand spanking new, a desk is something worth saving for years to come.
We'll talk soon.
